The Servicemember's Civil Relief Act (SCRA) expanded and improved the former Soldiers' and Sailors' Civil Relief Act (SSCRA). The SCRA provides a wide range of protections and relief for individuals entering, called to active duty in the military, or deployed servicemembers. It is intended to postpone or suspend certain civil obligations and potentially reduce the interest rate to enable service members to devote full attention to duty and relieve stress on the family members of those deployed servicemembers. Military personnel should learn about the SCRA and the protections and benefits it provides for themselves and their families. Below are some of the most common forms of relief that the SCRA provides:
- 6-Percent cap on eligible student loan interest rates
- Military deferment options
- Other loan and lease protections available
